Stanley Cup Final 2019: Boston Bruins dominate St. Louis Blues, in Game 3 statement 7-2 win

Source: NHL
The Bruins entered Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final Saturday with plenty to regain: The series lead. Momentum. Their confidence. The dominance of their top line. Home ice advantage. Check. Check. Check. Check and check. Boston took an early lead and never let St. Louis get into the game as they rolled to a 7-2 win, Saturday at the Enterprise Center to take a 2-1 series lead.

Tuukka Rask hadn’t given up four goals, in well over a month (15 games) and the Bruins gave him a cushion exactly that large less than a minute into the second period making everything else epilogue. The Bruins took some of the shine off the Jordan Binnington fairy tale, as they chased the Blues’ rookie goalie from the game in the second period. Binnington gave up five goals on 19 shots in favor of veteran Jake Allen. Game 4 is Monday at 8 p.m. in St. Louis. The Bruins and Patrice Bergeron badly needed momentum together and separately entering Game 3. Both got some to help Boston lead St. Louis, 3-0 after the first period Saturday at Enterprise Arena.

After two days of questions about slumps and his health, Patrice Bergeron gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead over the Blues on the power play. Bergeron, who had no points in the first two games of the series, perfectly redirected a low Torey Krug pass by Jordan Binnington to give Boston a 1-0 lead with 9:13 left in the first period. The Bruins now have a power play goal in seven straight games. Charlie Coyle extended that lead to 2-0 as Marcus Johansson fed him breaking into the zone and the most famous resident of East Weymouth slung a wrist shot past Binnington to make it 2-0 with 2:20 left in the period.

Sean Kuraly’s postseason hot streak continued when he fired the puck through Binnington’s legs with 10 seconds left in the period to make it 3-0 at intermission. Like his linemate, David Pastrnak shook the slump shackles in Game 3. Just 41 seconds into the second he flipped the puck over Binnington on the power play to make it 4-0.

Bad luck cost Tuukka Rask his shutout 11:05 into the second when Ivan Barbeshev’s shot doinked off Charlie McAvoy’s skate into the goal to make it 4-1. The Blues attempts at physical intimidation kept landing them in the penalty box and the Bruins kept taking advantage. Torey Krug added his name to the ledger with a power play goal with 7:48 left in the second that made it 5-1 and ended Jordan Binnington’s night.

Colton Parayko continued the Blues’ success caroming goals off of Bruins, as his shot skipped off Brandon Carlo with 14:36 left in the third to make it 5-2, but the game was out of reach. Noel Acciari added an empty-netter to seal the win late and Marcus Johansson had another after that. Rask stopped 27 shots.
